My Students

My students are part of a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) magnet within our elementary school. They come from various socioeconomic statuses and cultural backgrounds, and have a wide range of learning abilities/needs. Our school is part of a small, tight knit community, with kind, caring students, and parents stay involved as much as they can.

Our school is part of LAUSD, which is the second largest school district in the country.

A percentage of our students are brought to school from other communities on buses to attend our magnet program.

My Project

Students learn best through working with hands on materials. What better way to utilize manipulatives in the classroom than daily math centers? An array of rotating monthly math centers, aligned with the common core standards, will guide the students through a year of hands on learning! All of the items on the wish list will be utilized in the classroom on a daily basis to help enhance math lessons, encourage students to love math, differentiate for all types of learners, and breed brilliant mathematicians!

The base ten blocks will help students learn place value.

The fact family boards will be a great tool for learning how to create a fact family, and the expo markers and erasers will allow the students to use them again and again. The transparent spinners will be an exciting addition to any math game, eliminating the distraction of using a pencil and paper clip for a spinner! The assortment of dice can be used in all types of math games and lessons, and the jewelry box containers are a great way to organize the dice by type! Every good math center needs clipboards for keeping accountability sheets organized, and privacy screens to keep students on task when working independently. These materials will make a world of difference to my students by giving them the resources they need to better comprehend the subjects and standards being taught.
