Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach fourth grade in a UFT Title 1 school in Brooklyn, NY. My students are smart, creative and they love to learn. This year, I am teaching Science and Math to two fourth grade classes. The students are very excited about this because they get to switch classes, like they would in Middle School. This helps to prepare them for the future!

STEAM is a big component in my classroom.

This acronym stands for; Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. These STEAM programs are aimed to teach students to work together, think critically and problem solve. This approach to teaching puts as much emphasis on the learning process as well as the results. My students are excited to work collaboratively and listen to each other's ideas.

My Project

With these materials, my students will be able to work collaboratively to complete hands-on science experiments! They will be able to actually see how simple machines work, what makes a bulb light and learn all about forces and motion. They will be able to study simple machines using the trade books as opposed to an "old-fashioned" text book.

Hands-on" is the best way to learn!

Students will use the math manipulatives to support lessons taught in the classroom and provide visuals for small group intervention. Three-dimensional shapes will be much easier to understand when they are actually 3D and right in front of you.
