Currently, I am teaching Kindergarten to the most wonderful group of children. This is my fourth year teaching Kindergarten and I absolutely love it. The children in my class are very sweet and loving to each other and me. They are extremely encouraging and helpful to one another. The sad thing is that most of my students do not get the encouragement and help they deserve at home. I come from a low socio-economic school that lacks parental support. When some of my students entered Kindergarten, they had never been to preschool and some had never been in an environment with children other than their siblings. Most of my students did not know any letters or numbers, could not write their name, and had never used glue or scissors. I knew I had my work cut-out for me! It is very important for Kindergarteners to have hands-on materials to enrich their learning experience. Their attention spans are not meant to sit on a rug and listen to a lecture. The best way for Kindergarteners to learn is to have interaction with their subject and get involved. The children get so excited and are ready to learn when they have opportunities for hands-on activities. However, the problem is that we do not have Science materials or funding. Our state is going through a budget crisis. Right now we're not sure if we are going to get any money for classroom resources. Our Science series has been used for years and most of the materials that came with the series have been consumed. I am asking for different Science resources that cover the standards and lessons the children are required to learn in Kindergarten. I have requested different science manipulatives that will help us do experiments. These manipulatives include a sink or float kit, a magnet kit, two big magnifiers, plant growing kits, a senses game, a seasons game, a bug discovery kit, and life cycle puzzles. I have found that when the students get excited about learning, they learn even more. These resources would be a wonderful addition. Their skill levels range greatly, so it would benefit every student, from my lowest to highest. It would be a “dream come true” for my students to have the opportunity to use these valuable resources. If you help our classroom, you will be changing the lives of wonderful children and countless others in future years. Kindergarten is such a vital year. This is the year that a child’s educational foundation is set for their entire academic future. You could truly make a difference and help these children build a strong foundation that leads them to success in the future. The children in my room are so caring and loving to others. They would greatly appreciate the caring and loving act of your donation. Please open your heart up to these children, so they can learn. That is a gift that will stay with them forever!
