Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an ESL K-2 teacher working in a minority and high need community of English Language Learners.

The school I currently work in still uses chalkboards which is very unhealthy for my little ones especially the ones that suffer from asthma. My students are eager to learn but we need a big whiteboard to be able to continue their learning but in a safe and productive environment. In my experience as a teacher, students are always motivated to participate using the whiteboard. We can use the whiteboard during word study, guided reading, math, as well as in science and social studies.

My students really need this magnetic whiteboard to better prepare them in learning letters, words and have a better view of what they are learning without getting sick. My students are always asking to write on the small whiteboards but with a big one at the front of the room students will learn to use them the right way. Having a big whiteboard in front of the room is a great tool for quick review, comprehension checks, and vocabulary review. Most importantly, students are engaged, and alert. I have many shy students who would be more inclined to participate using the whiteboard. Using the whiteboard allows all of the students to answer with confidence. Finally, using the whiteboard saves paper and money. Our school was built in the early 1900's and they have done very little to renovate the building.

I assure you that with your contribution my ESL students will greatly benefit from your donation and better understand what they are learning. Learning a new language is challenging but with updated materials their learning will be enriched. We appreciate your time and thank you for your help.
