My Project

Next school year, I’ll be returning to my role as a literacy teacher after a few years of teaching English 9 and 10. I’m excited to step back into this position and support our most foundational learners—but after several years away, my classroom needs a fresh set of literacy tools to meet their unique needs. That’s why I’m asking for your help to resupply with hands-on materials like magnetic letters and Elkonin box paddles.

My students are recently immigrated teens who are just beginning to read, many for the first time in their lives. Despite limited or interrupted schooling in their home countries, they are deeply motivated to close their educational gaps and build brighter futures. Your support will help create a classroom where learning to read is accessible, engaging, and full of possibility.

These materials will allow us to break down words into sounds, build phonemic awareness, and practice decoding in a way that is interactive and meaningful. By using magnetic letters and Elkonin boxes, students will be able to physically manipulate sounds and letters, helping to solidify the connections between spoken and written language. These tools are essential in helping them move from sounding out words to fluent, confident reading.
