Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyday our first grade students work at centers. It provides an opportunity to engage in learning in an interactive way. The Magna Tiles will be used to provide inspiring and creative play and use of fine motor skills. The folder partition will be used during assessments and other activities requiring privacy.

I teach first grade beginner English Language Learners (ELLs).

They come from all over the world and speak over 8 different languages. They are so eager to learn to speak, read, and write English. Our morning is full of rigor; grammar, phonics, and writing, but center time is a wonderful opportunity that allows students to use creativity to express themselves.

My Project

The Magna Tiles will be used on a light table to build palatial creations! They will then write and describe their structures. This visual representation will provide much needed inspiration to young learners. Students will use the folder partition to maintain test validity. They often peek at their neighbors' paper and copy work. This can interfere with my ability to interpret their comprehension and henceforth my future instruction.

The Magna Tiles will improve my classroom by promoting creative, inspirational play that will in turn increase motivation to learn.

My students need time to nurture their imagination. The folder partition will dramatically increase the validity of our tests and improve teacher instruction. Students will not have to move around the room or mess with folders that are constantly falling down. We will be so grateful for these donations.
