My Students

My students are strong readers, but they haven't realized it. While they appreciate an interesting story, many have not made the connection that books can provide exciting opportunities for entertainment.

The love of reading is a gift that many of my fourth graders have yet to receive.

I am confident that this year will deliver the joy of reading for my fourth graders, and I look forward to witnessing them unwrap the joy of reading. Enjoying a "good" book together will help to transition the reluctant readers to lifetime consumers of books.

My Project

The requested book, "Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher", is a tale about a young student striving to find his place in the world. The themes of self-acceptance, confidence, and kindness are shared with the reader in an exciting plot that leaves students begging to read the next chapter.

Watching a student develop a love of reading through fantasy fiction is truly a magical experience.

Reading fantasy fiction engages students and encourages a love of reading for entertainment. Fantasy fiction is a gateway to developing independent reading skills for developing readers because they are excited by the reading experience.
