Hello! I am looking for the opportunity to share the work of my favorite author and illustrator, William Steig, with my first grade students. The late Mr. Steig was a magical writer. His stories deal with feelings, family love, friendship, challenges and triumphs. These are all topics that 6 and 7 year-olds can relate to. Mr. Steig also introduces sophisticated vocabulary words in a way that children can understand. As a teacher, I love when my students learn and can use new vocabulary words. The children will enjoy these books during read aloud time, but as they grow as readers, they will also be able to read these books on their own. I am constantly trying to add to my classroom library as much as I can. The world of books is a wonderful place for children to be. I think my students will be entranced by William Steig's unique storytelling style and adorable illustrations. You may notice that I am requesting some of the books in Spanish. This way, my Bilingual children can borrow the books to read with their parents, many of whom can only read to their children in Spanish. When children share their love of reading with their families, it makes books extra meaningful. Thanks so much for reading this proposal. I hope you will check out William Steig's books too. I still enjoy reading them myself!
