Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Middle school is such an unbearably hard time for so many. My goal in teaching middle school is to make it a little less difficult while giving my students the resources they need to succeed. I teach at a Title I school, which means that the majority of our students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch.

When home life is turbulent, I want my classroom to be a place where students are able to relax and feel at home.

Our school provides food boxes and resources to any families in need, and we pride ourselves on taking care of our own community. Many of our students still enjoy their teachers and coming to school and we feel like it's our job to set them up for success to continue to enjoy learning as they move onto high school. So many of our students have been through so much, we want the school to be a safe place for them.

My Project

Due to distance learning this year, my school district has invested in Pear Deck, a very cool educational technology set up that allows me to create slideshows, present them to students but make them interactive. I can have them watch a video and answer a question right on the slides, and then get a report to give them a grade for participation. The only downside is that another device is needed to be able to see whether or not they are participating in real time.

Unfortunately my desk cannot be moved to a place where I can have this available to me while also moving around the class to monitor students.

However, an iPad would allow me to do this. I am currently using my own personal iPad but would like to have one for school. This way, I can use it during my teaching, but my students can also use it to easily scan and check out books from my classroom library. The stand will allow students to access what they need to on the iPad without the risk of dropping it, and the case will keep it safe while I'm teaching with it.
