Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My school is located in California and in an area with predominantly English Learners. Our campus has 84% English learners and 98% free and reduced lunch. I recently learned that we have 43% of our population living in poverty and homelessness. Our students need every opportunity for stability and something they can call their own. I teach 2nd graders and they are still learning how to function in their own space. Being able to bring my students to a designated area, where everyone has their own spot will help support my discipline and incentive programs in my class. Being able to bring the students to a central area in the class can help create a positive atmosphere and help to foster the students' self-esteem and invoke a classroom of participation and the ability to extend my students' knowledge of the world around them.
