This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a school-based occupational therapist working in Miami, FL, I work with many students who require intervention to improve their fine motor, visual motor, and visual perceptual abilities. These students struggle with handwriting abilities, self-care skills, and overall lack of coordination when engaging in age-appropriate tasks. My students are also of varying exceptionalities and have a variety of health concerns.

I serve as in itinerant staff member and travel between multiple work locations daily and weekly.

With all the traveling I do, it is very important for me to have organized, light weight items to easily transition from one work location to the other.

My Project

My job as an itinerant staff member requires me to be at various locations daily and weekly. Now, we are required to service students both online and in-person when applicable. In the past, I have used school desktops with ease; however, these resources are harder to come by.

With the majority of students back in the schoolhouse setting, there are less resources available for schools to share with itinerant staff members like myself.

The most noteworthy of these items is a reliable computer. Desktops are seldom found in optimal working condition, and the laptops available to us are very heavy and outdated. They require extensive updates that take away valuable time completing paperwork. Not to mention the excess weight to carry around takes a large toll on my back and shoulders from carrying it around all day. This year, we have made the transition to our paperwork being 99% online or computer based, which absolutely requires you to use a reliable computer to complete your job requirements on a daily basis. Please help me acquire a reliable computer to successfully and efficiently complete my paperwork and online based meetings.
