This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember what it's like to burst out singing when you hear the right song at the right time or to change your opinion because of something you heard on the radio? My students are experiencing the power of free speech in their dynamic student run radio station but need your help realize their dreams.

My students come from diverse backgrounds and economic conditions and attend our unique charter high school of the arts and multimedia.

Our school encourages creativity, lifelong learning in the arts, and excellence in academic pursuits. Many of the students in the radio broadcasting program don't fit into various 'tracks' that characterize many school systems. The career technical orientation provided in the radio program prepares them for internships and jobs in the entertainment industry. They meet and interview celebrities and people who are key to making the industry grow. They also put on their own shows with artists at the school and with local bands whom they promote on the station.

My Project

We're asking for a Mac computer so that we can record, edit and produce radio shows. Creating radio shows is one of the best ways for students to experience the magic of the art of broadcast communications. Mac computers are the basic building blocks of our studio and station. The more computers we have the more we can expand the program on all levels.

The opportunity for a high school student to record and produce radio shows is a unique gift that you can provide for an expanding number of students here at our school and, soon, to other schools who are following our lead.
