My Students

My students have been identified with language-based disabilities, and have extreme difficulties with executive functioning skills. They are hard-working and focused learners, striving to succeed at the middle school level. It is not always easy for them due to their challenges. Our school is an inner-city, in a low-income area, where many assistive materials are not readily available.

My students have excellent attendance, demonstrate responsibility and diligence when attempting academic tasks, and have already set future goals.

I want to provide them with the best reading intervention I can during the remote learning phase of this school year. I'd like them to feel as comfortable and familiar as they would be when utilizing my classroom daily in our building, feeling calm and secure, while developing and strengthening their academic skills to be successful.

My Project

The expectations of providing remote instruction using just a Chromebook creates obstacles when teaching. Trying to

avoid these obstacles is a challenge as the computer is unable to maintain connectivity, frequently lags, and buffers most

videos and will not play. On some days, documents necessary to view during teaching do not open and time on learning

is lost. Remote learning is becoming the norm, computers are required to remain on for over 6 hours a day, plus

additional preparation times. As a special educator, responsible for teaching a large group of dyslexic students to read

and write, I want to have all the available tools to make this possible.

I am wishing for a laptop computer that is designed to take on the challenge of remote learning; a computer with quick

processing speed, the capacity to deliver several modes of instruction simultaneously as well as access instructional

materials without losing connection.

Being able to provide seamless instruction without interruption will increase my students' ability to maintain focus, complete

tasks, and utilize the time on learning to develop and strengthen their skills in order to read and write more effectively.
