Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach high school kids from all around New York City. They come from different boroughs and neighborhoods all trying to get away from violent gangs and trying to focus on their education. They are a great group of kids who are always looking for ways to learn new things about technology. They come to the classroom filled with interest and creative minds. More than a positive attitude and thirst for learning, these kids come to my classroom with empty stomachs and excessive troubles brought about by homelessness and other social issues from their communities. They often ask if I have food, water, and other household items to give them because they are feeling hungry, have not had a decent meal, or need products to keep themselves hygienic. More than their basic needs, I have noticed that they also need a tool to gain access to better education. That is when I looked up Mac Apps which are available using Macbooks!

My Project

Having a MacBook computer will help my students access information on the internet and organize their learning portfolios better using essential Mac apps that maximize students' web browsing, productivity, communications, work, entertainment, and utilities. The following are just some of the many apps students can use using this device: OneNote, Evernote, Google Drive, Dropbox, TextExpander, Skype, Tweetbot, Slack, Airmail, Spotify and many more. There are hundreds of awesome Mac apps out there that students can use to maximize their learning and activate their critical thinking skills. What better way to get them started then to have the tool to enable them to access it!
