My Students

My students are hardworking, enthusiastic about speech therapy and learning. Many of the students that receive therapy are in special education classes with varying disabilities. The therapy that I provide is individualized and modified to each student's needs. Some students receive therapy in groups while others receive therapy individually.

Technology is a major motivator for my students!

From apps to research websites , technology is a key motivator in my speech room. Positive reinforcement, visual models, and auditory prompts are the main aspects to the therapy that I provide. All of these key components can be used along with a laptop to facilitate learning and success.

Currently, we have no working computer in the speech therapy room which inhibits my students from learning at their absolute highest potential. Yet, they still come to speech therapy every day, ready to learn! They are very determined in all that they do which is why they are so special to me. This will be my first official full year of being a speech therapist in the DOE and nothing would excite me more than to provide my students with something as motivating as a laptop.

My Project

I am requesting a MacBook Air for my students who receive speech-language therapy. We are currently a Title l school located in Rockaway Beach, Queens.

Because we were impacted by Hurricane Sandy, many of the computers and desktops that are being used are either outdated or no longer working to their fullest potential.

Many of the students that are receiving therapy do not have access to technology such as a computer at home due to the low-income area that they live in.

Providing my students with a laptop will not only be motivating and rewarding but will help reach each major MILESTONE they have as individual students. The MacBook will be used to type up reports and learn the importance of proofreading. Additionally, students will be instructed to review and read research articles based on each student's grade and reading style, and download applications related to specific topics such as articulation, reading, writing etc. Lastly, providing my students with this computer will truly motivate them to want more for themselves and to learn about the advances in technology to prepare for the future.
