A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I have some of the best minds of the inner city sitting right in my high school's classrooms. They are intelligent, hardworking, resourceful, and determined to succeed academically as a means of moving out of poverty. However, because the majority of my students are socioeconomically disadvantaged—thus qualifying for Title I funds—it really isn’t a stretch to imagine how they may have felt discouraged at times and consequently hadn’t performed to their academic potential earlier in their high school careers.
Some of my students even work full-time jobs just to help support their families as they vehemently navigate through high school and their A-G, state, and district graduation requirements.
Still, the economic disadvantages take their toll resulting in fewer opportunities to access instructional materials and technology that can help them raise their performance on state, Advanced Placement, and college entrance exams along with their overall academic achievement.
My Project
Since the computer lab isn't always available or reasonably accessible to our students, a MacBook Pro would be a great addition to help my students become academically responsible. This laptop would essentially help supplement making technology more accessible to our economically disadvantaged youth.
This project request for a MacBook Pro will help my students have direct access to their learning management system where they can stay atop of their course assignments, tests, grades, and more.
In addition, students will be able to access the MacBook Pro to complete college and grant applications as well as continue to make progress toward completing their online credit recovery courses.
