This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class consists of 18 curious and amazing students! Every school day, they come to class ready to learn and explore. They love being exposed to diverse book selections and subject topics. Their excitement to share/exchange their abundance of knowledge and contribute to the classroom community is endless. Remote learning has been an adjustment for everyone, but my students’ passion and love for learning have only gotten stronger.

My Project

I teach at an urban, inner-city school, where most students come from low-income families. Our school is underfunded, which limits our access to essential resources for our students. Remote learning has changed teaching forever and brought to the forefront of the inequities that exist in our education system. Unfortunately, I no longer have the ability to interact and engage with my students in the personable manner that I did prior to the COVID pandemic. I am heartbroken by this reality. An overwhelming majority of my teacher-to-student interactions and instruction-times are limited to Zoom meetings, prerecorded videos, and online assignments. My current work computer does not allow me to provide my students with the rigorous, high-quality education and support that they deserve. My computer often lags, does not support Microsoft or any document creating software, and limits my ability to record and edit videos. It results in many technological challenges that limit my students learning experiences.

All students deserve access to a quality education that meets and supports their varying needs.

With a MacBook Air, I would be able to give my students access to the same quality education that students in districts with more funding receive. I will be able to create and edit videos with ease as well as have access to Microsoft Office to create assignments. Most importantly, the MacBook’s high-quality camera and speedy processor would facilitate more organic, real-time interactions between my students and me. A new computer would allow me to focus on what is truly important, my students, without having to spend extra time trying to work around technological difficulties.
