My Students

My students are largely Haitian immigrants or first-generation Americans. They come from low-income homes with almost all of them eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. They are sometimes limited to a school-home routine with little or no opportunities to experience anything outside of those places.

Some of the students have never experienced things that other children may take for granted, such as owning a computer and internet, going to a theme park, or traveling to another state or country.

They need to see that the world is more than what is between the walls of their home and the fences of their school.

My Project

A Mac mini will allow my students to be able to work on another solid desktop to do projects in the classroom. We have a few laptops but they are aging. The Mac mini will give them access to some of the productivity applications that are in the Apple ecosystem which fits in with about half of my students as they have iPads at home. The mini will also be easily placed in the classroom due to its size which is a huge plus because space is a large issue now with social distancing measures in place.
