Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have twenty amazing 3rd grade students that show up to class eager to learn, despite the challenges they are faced with, both in and out of the classroom. Our school is a low income Title I school that offers free breakfast and lunch to all children. My students have a wide variety of learning styles and levels, all of which deserve the best education possible. Every student in my classroom is unique, and everyone in the room respects each other. I care about my students and they know it!

My goal, as a bilingual teacher, is to encourage my students to love learning and to develop lifelong independent learners.

I especially love that my students try their best on everything that comes their way. They love to read and enjoy hands-on activities. They are great helpers, and I know I can count on them. Every day, I make sure to instill good qualities that will make them amazing citizens. I want my students to remember me when they grow up, so I make them feel welcome, safe, and important on a daily basis!

My Project

As a teacher, it is vital to have the right tools for the job, and an up to date, fast desktop computer is at the top of the list. The COVID-19 crisis has caused me to teach remotely. I spend hours videoconferencing, researching, lesson planning, posting grades, recording lessons, and attending professional development online. My current laptop is not working for me because it is outdated and extremely slow.

Distance learning is challenging for my students, so I want to ensure I provide them with the best education possible.

Nothing about how I will teach in the fall semester looks certain. Unfortunately, it looks like I will be in the same predicament and I want to ensure I am prepared for my students. I believe a computer is a fundamental element within a 21st century learning environment. This summer I will be curriculum writing to prepare for both in class and remote instruction. Our district is considering a hybrid model for students which will allow them to learn from home or at school respecting social distance guidelines. I am continuing to stay up to date with online professional development in order to be prepared and organized for my students no matter the situation, and this new desktop computer will help me do just that. Thank you for your consideration.
