Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul". Our students range in abilities; both physically and emotionally. Transitioning from the classroom to the library is difficult for most. One thing that would help get them settled is classical music playing in the library.

We are a campus library that serves three unique schools in New York.

Our school library serves Title I schools with over 80% of the student population qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Our students are inquisitive and eager 6th-12th graders that come from a community that has severe socioeconomic challenges.

My Project

Imagine walking into a school library and seeing all of the students being productive either working independently or in groups. This is something that is possible with the materials (wireless speakers) purchased in this project. We have seen and read about the benefits of music to students emotionally and intellectually. We hope to be given the chance to see it first hand in our library with your help.

Our students don't always understand how to behave in many social settings.

We strive to help them focus, become calmer and more productive with the use of classical music. We know that this project and the resources will help our students in school and beyond. Realizing that transitions are so difficult for our students we hope to make it seamless with the use of classical music. The promise is that our students will adapt to a new environment with the music we play therein.
