Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a 9th grade teacher of a diverse and underserved student population, I always seek to provide students as much choice as possible in their research.

In order to break the cycle of the school to prison pipeline, students must have a classroom which provides them an atmosphere of comfort and encourages risk, rather than replicating the 4 walls of a cell.

My students will be researching song lyrics and analyzing them for literary elements in an independent study that culminates in a lecture they must deliver in front of the whole class. This project, which requires focus, attention to detail, and independent exploration, can only work if the classroom they are in reflects those values.

Please fund my project in order to best serve a community long on smarts, vim, and joy, but short on money and fight the toxic policies which seek to destroy communities rather than build new ones.
