Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work in an urban middle school with an incredible group of 7th grade scholars. These students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, yet they all share a common desire: to connect, communicate, and build friendships during lunchtime.

This school year, our students are screen-free from the moment they enter the building until dismissal.

This initiative has led to increased focus and participation in class, promoting hands-on learning and social activities. However, I’ve noticed that lunchtime has become a challenging period for some students as they navigate how to engage in positive and constructive social interactions without the distraction of screens.

To address this, I am seeking to provide bracelet-making kits and coloring materials during lunchtime. These hands-on activities will create opportunities for students to bond, share, and positively interact with one another. By fostering a space for creativity and connection, I believe we can enhance their social skills and, as a result, see increased engagement and focus in the classroom after lunch.

I am excited about the possibility of watching our students collaborate, create, and strengthen their friendships while participating in these activities. Your support will help make lunchtime a more inclusive, engaging, and joyful experience for our students.
