My Project

I am the trauma clinician at CMS. In my role I am tasked to be a support to our students in regards to there social emotional well being. I work with students individually, in addition to in small groups. While working at CMS I work with a variety of students who are dealing with significant amounts of trauma.

At CMS we have a Trauma Team that was recently given the ok to host 'lunch and learns' that will provide students the opportunity to learn how to cope with grief/loss, healthy boundaries, building healthy relationships, etc.

Students are dealing with similar types of trauma and our goal for these lunch and learns is to help students not only get support from staff, but peers that they see on a daily basis. We will allow students to have a space where they can form a sense of community.

I am a strong believer in the Maslow's "Hierarchy of Needs." It is my belief that it can be difficult for most of our students to focus if there basic needs are not met. In my office I keep hygiene items for our students. We would like the lunch and learn environment to be relaxing and allow this space where students can get snacks, while learning different ways to manage emotions. I would like to have an area where students can utilize sensory items as well.
