My Project

As a special education teacher in a low-income, high-poverty school district, my students face daily challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these obstacles, I am deeply committed to providing them with positive and meaningful learning experiences. My students are my world, and I focus on their potential, strengths, and growth, rather than their disabilities. Many of my students come from single-parent households and rely on free lunch programs, which can limit their life experiences and opportunities. But once they enter my classroom, I work hard to create an environment where they can thrive academically and emotionally.

I am excited about the opportunity to receive books for Lunar New Year and materials for a calming area in my classroom.

Celebrating Lunar New Year is important because it not only broadens my students’ cultural understanding but also allows them to experience a joyful, educational tradition that they may not encounter elsewhere. It’s a chance to teach them about diversity, traditions, and the beauty of different cultures, which helps foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging.

With the Lunar New Year literature, my students will have the opportunity to develop a variety of essential skills, including improved communication, increased literacy, and the ability to manage emotions and focus better in class. These resources will offer a multi-sensory approach to learning, helping students practice self-regulation and emotional resets, all while enhancing their academic experiences. I'm truly excited about the potential impact this will have on their growth, well-being, and overall success.
