Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year for the Lunar New Year we are going to celebrate in style. I would love to drink tea, eat snacks, and create paper dragons and lanterns. And, of course, have the kids help clean our room. Cleaning is an important part of Chinese tradition as it is supposed to sweep out the bad and bring in the new.

Food and feasting are also a major part of the traditions.

In particular, the Chinese eat noodles for longevity. Gold coins are given for good luck. On Lunar New Year’s Eve, children stay up late playing games. We will decorate the room, give red envelopes, and make our tea bags to help celebrate.

Gong Hei Fat Choi! We will also research the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. 2025 is the Year of the Snake. Each zodiac sign plays a huge part in the year ahead. My students will research the meaning behind the zodiac animal from their birth year and celebrate as much as we can.

This is a celebration not many of my students have had the opportunity to experience and what better way to introduce them to other cultural traditions than celebrating with traditional treats and decorations!
