This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at an elementary school in Georgia. My students are hard workers and eager to learn. I am constantly trying to find new and innovative ways to challenge their thinking. They really are a great group of individuals that work well together. We spend a lot of our time together working in groups and encouraging each other to continue to grow academically. Another important aspect in our class is social emotional learning. I want my students to live up to their full potential in all areas so that they are prepared for their future.
My Project
My school district adopted the Lucy Calkins writing program this year. This program requires students to become very organized with their writing. We are currently using pocket folders as our writing folders. The problem with this is that the folders are not durable, lack organization, and papers are lost frequently. My class could really benefit from 3 ring binders with dividers. This would allow students to take out and add to their writing more efficiently. Lucy Calkins is taught through seven units including narrative, informational, persuasive, and others. The dividers will allow the students to keep their work organized at all times.
