This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Low income, special education kids, who are amazing individuals, who just need a helping, loving hand." I teach 4 self contained, eighth grade, special education classes, many of whom have behavioral disabilities such as ADHD or are on the Autism spectrum, in addition to their academic challenges they face. My students also come from low income families and are facing challenging circumstances.

Many of them are well below grade level and I am trying to bring technology into the classroom through various channels and would like to enhance this with headphones so they can use different programs that I have personally purchased for them to help bring them up in their reading and writing fluency.

They are highly capable and amazing kids, who just lack the necessary resources to continue pushing forward in their academic success.

My Project

One set of headphones will be shared amongst all of my special education classes and shared with several of my colleagues to be used in ELA, Social Studies, Science, Technology, Advisory and Careers classes.

The other set will be used by our ESL department, shared by all of ESL teachers to bring audio, visual and technology into our classrooms.

Having headphones will allow us to bring audio powerpoint presentations, interactive quizzes and instruction, while bringing less distraction to the students who need it most. Also, we will be able to have them do interactive research projects and bring joy to their lives. School for some of them is their distraction from their own realities and they are deserving of the same educational opportunities as students with high income families.
