Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright, self-motivated children who are actively engaged in their learning. They love working collaboratively and independently to improve their skills in Reading and Writing.

Our students have a love of Reading that is unquestionable.

When our classes move through the school, people see their books, not their faces. Our biggest behavioral challenge is keeping the kids out of their books long enough to practice their skills!

My Project

My students will use the reading comprehension games library, teaching center, comparing text center, paired passages activities, grammar game library, writing skills posters, grammar activity cards and other materials to monitor and improve their learning in workstations. The materials are designed to help students practice their Reading skills by notating texts to justify their answers, recognizing clues that help them infer, and developing their vocabulary through context clue practice. The Writing Centers help students learn the necessary skills to quickly compose essays that either tell a story (Personal Narrative) or make an argument (Expository) by organizing their thinking and revising and editing final drafts. Most of the students are at or above Grade Level in Reading, so direct instruction from the teacher is not as necessary and less engaging to them. Materials like these, that allow them to work independently, or collaboratively, will help them take further ownership of their learning. Intrinsic motivation is the key to creating a love of learning, the ultimate goal of any valuable, meaningful experience.

My project will make a difference because creating lifelong learners, capable of evaluating, comparing, and synthesizing information and applying their knowledge, is vital to a successful society.
