Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students live on the south side of Chicago and sadly experience things some of us cannot fathom. Coming to school is their safe place, a sanctuary to be free and express themselves without all of the extra "noise". My Kindergarten students have some of the happiest attitudes and brightest minds despite their circumstances.

I wake up each day unsure of what went on in any of my students lives the night before, and I do not take my responsibility in their life lightly.

I work hard to give them the best possible instruction day in and day out that not only fosters their love of learning, but also helps them to become an exceptional citizen of the world. In order to create a community within our classroom, we do many activities together as a whole group. They love working together! We work in teams to solve problems and answer questions. We celebrate individuality. We cheer on our friends when it is their time to shine and also support them when they fail. If I can begin to instill the value of togetherness and community in my young scholars, I feel that I have done my job.

My Project

These materials will help to enhance learning and build community in our classroom. Some of the children in our class do not have access to so much as a pencil at home; when they are in their classroom, it is so important we make the most of our time together!

Not all hero's wear capes, and we are so grateful for your consideration!

By purchasing the rainbow dot carpet, you will help our class have a home base for collaborative learning! When we gather at this rug we will have rich discussions about the books we are reading, become mathematicians and scientist by solving problems together, and communicate openly and safely about our social emotional well being. The headphones will provide a calm, silent learning time for each individual student on their chrome book.

With your contribution to our classroom you are helping to change the world one child at a time. The future relies on the younger generation, and with your help we can shape them into incredible learners and citizens!
