I will be moving to third grade this coming school year with my amazing second graders. My children are from low income households in Sunset Park Brooklyn where they go to a title one school.Due to the Coronavirus they have gone through a lot this past year. Some of them lost family members. Some had to watch family members get sick and some had to deal with not having the technology that they needed to do remote learning. But through it all they remained resilient. Since they had so much change and upheaval this last school year I wanted to give them some consistency by moving with them to third grade and helping them in any way that I can get through a confusing and difficult school year. These new materials will give me some help in being able to do just that.
My Project
This school year it is uncertain whether we will be in school teaching, remote teaching or a combination of both. Last year we were told last minute that we’d need to remote teach and there was no time to prepare or grab our materials.
So this year I wanted to make sure I was prepared in case we had to teach remotely again.
I will be moving to third grade with my second graders and I will need to teach about maps and landforms.
Therefore, I would like to have materials that I could use to show them live what landforms are and where those landforms are located on a map. At this age it helps children to be able to visually see what you are talking about, rather than just hear about it.
