This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Last school year our class adopted a lawn goose statue as our "class pet." What began as a funny decor item soon developed into a beloved school mascot and a beloved class pet named Gary. This goose became notorious for his fun outfit changes, and the students would often gravitate towards Gary the Goose on their bad days-- pulling him from his spot on the windowsill to sit on their desk for extra moral support, walk to the bathroom with them, or hug when they felt fidgety during algebra class. Little did I know upon purchasing this goose that it would soon build an unthinkable community in my classroom and boost morale in a way that is so uncommon for a math classroom.

The goal of this project is to fund more outfits for Gary, our Silly Goose "class pet," in hopes of continuing to bring joy, laughter, positivity, and community to my students this upcoming school year with his spontaneous outfit changes and silly looks.

I will continue to use this as a means to cheer up students AND help promote to these high schoolers that it is more than okay to embrace being a "silly goose" still, even as you grow up. I am hoping that with your help we can keep this message alive and continue to bring the fun of this well-dressed class pet to my upcoming high school math classes.
