This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Did you know when parents read to their children, they tend to develop larger vocabularies, become better readers and perform better in school? Emergent literacy skills are critical pre-requisite skills that children need to develop before they can learn to read.
Children learn new vocabulary in many ways, including through reading books and talking with adults in their environment.
Studies have shown that the larger a child’s vocabulary, the quicker they will learn to read, as they are familiar with more of the words they will encounter. This is why I would like to provide parents with a workshop on how to read with their child at home. The workshop will teach parents how to implement pre-emergent reading skills and vocabulary development by reading to their child for 5-10 minutes a night. At the end of the workshop I would like to provide parents with a take home library in order to start implementing the pre-emergent reading skills at home. Parents will be helping in developing their child's literacy skills.
Please help me in making my vision come alive by donating to my project.
