This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle years Life Skills students thrive on the stories that books unfold for us. During this school year when we are sometimes virtual and sometimes in person, students are confused and disoriented by circumstances that are difficult for them to understand. Books provide them with a continuous story. No matter whether we are virtual or in person, students can count on an unfolding and interesting story as part of their school day.

My Life Skills students are still talking about the books that we read together last year.

By having a classroom set of books, students are able to have their own book to take home when virtual learning is forced upon us. Having something in addition to the computer screen supports my students and their quest for literacy.

My Project

Books are my students' connection to learning, to school, and to our class. A class set of the graphic novel March will enable all my students to have a book in their hands both in class and at home when covid outbreaks force us to suddenly switch to virtual learning.

My students are struggling readers who get excited about their education when they have a book that belongs to them, especially when it's a book that their regular education peers may also be reading.

This is critical support for my class during our periods of online learning.
