My Project

My students have been loving the Dogman books. While they aren't the most robust text, graphic novels have a place in with our students. Graphic novels are a powerful tool for struggling readers, combining engaging visuals with accessible text to enhance comprehension. The imagery supports word recognition, helping the students infer meaning from context. Shorter text passages reduce intimidation, encouraging persistence. Many graphic novels feature diverse characters and relatable themes, fostering emotional connections that increase motivation.

Additionally, graphic novels cater to different learning styles, making reading more enjoyable and accessible for those who struggle with traditional books.

The most important thing graphic novels do for my students though is they get the students reading. Students are borrowing books every other day because they are finishing books. They are asking for the next book in a series and this project asks for additional books in series as well as new series to help the students branch out.
