Love of Literacy

My students need a furnished library to explore new worlds through literature. I also want books to promote reading and literacy among my preschool students. My wish is to create lifelong readers.

My Students

The library is a great way for my students to experience many different adventures. They are able to use their imaginations to travel to far away places and meet many new and interesting characters. The students in this class come from a variety of backgrounds. The students enjoy listening to many different stories. They also enjoy hearing about the adventures of their favorite literary characters. The school is a large urban public school where most of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The Head Start program services students from low income families.

My Project

Some of the students in my class are not read to at home on a consistent basis. Therefore, they are not exposed to as many vocabulary words as their higher income counterparts. I want the students to be exposed to high quality literature in a comfortable and inviting center. I want the students to be interested in going to the library center and enjoy being there. I want students to be exposed to new and challenging vocabulary words.

If you can donate to this project, you will be able to close the 3,000 word gap and give these students a chance to experience quality literature on a consistent basis.

They will be able to sit in a comfortable setting and share stories with peers and read individually with a teacher. They will hear word fluency and learn comprehension skills. Lastly, they will develop a lifelong passion to read and explore new worlds through literature.
