Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

High school is a pivotal time, filled with excitement, challenges, and new opportunities.

For our incoming freshmen, this transition can feel overwhelming—especially when they lack the basic supplies needed to succeed; that’s why we’re launching “Love in a Pencil Case, Year 2” a project designed to equip every freshman with the essentials to start high school prepared and confident.

Our school is over crowded, and we often don't have enough for all. With 500 incoming freshmen next year, we need community support. Our students are resilient, hardworking, and full of potential. But many face obstacles beyond the classroom, including financial hardships that make it difficult to access even the simplest tools. A fully stocked pencil case may seem small, but it represents readiness, support, and belonging.

Each kit will include pens, pencils, highlighters, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, sticky notes, scissors, hand sanitizer, stress balls, and a touch of encouragement—all essentials for organization, note-taking, problem-solving, and mental wellness. These supplies will help students engage in class, take meaningful notes, and develop strong study habits, eliminating the stress of not having what they need.

The best part?! This is 100% sponsored by our Wilbur Cross GSA! An opportunity to demonstrate our kindness and compassion during increasingly uncertain times in our Queer Community.

Our goal is to ensure every student starts their high school journey on equal footing, with the confidence that they are seen, valued, and supported. These simple tools are more than just supplies—they are a foundation for success. With your support, we can make sure that every freshman walks into school ready to learn, grow, and thrive. Together, we can set them up for success from day one.
