My Students

Our school is Title I. Students range from Asian to Hispanic to African-American to Arabic. Our school has a high population of special education students with a large spectrum of abilities and challenges such as Autistic, emotionally disturbed, speech and language and other health impairments. Our school is the definition of diversity.

These first graders are curious, energetic and inspiring - a diverse group of students who come from a high needs area, who love to get their hands on new materials.

This class has students with IEPs (Individualized Learning Programs) and who are English Language Learners, but that does not stop them from being thirsty learners.

My Project

My first graders work hard every day, yet some still need a lot of support with reading. These Touch & Read Phonics Match sets, sight word practice cards, and other materials will engage students in big ways. With bright and colorful graphics, first graders will love these activities.

This is a small project with big potential.

Included in this project are games and sets that will help the struggling readers and extend the learning for the higher achievers. From mastering basic letter sounds to applying knowledge of vowel teams (ae, ie, and ou) to words. These supplies will be used as center activities. In literacy centers, students get to choose where and how they want to learn. They get to work in small groups with students learning at the same speed they are. In these small groups, students get to work closely with a teacher to practice the most necessary skills.

Using the Wiki Stix activity, students are able to engage their senses to write and form letters. While doing this they can practice the sound the letter makes as well as apply the sound to beginning or endings of words. For students who have mastered letter sounds, they can practice blends in words such as brave, crib and lunch.
