My Project

Flexible seating provides my students with the comfort and agency they need to get a head start on early learning. During class learning times, we come together as a community in the meeting area section of our classroom. Flexible seating offers children more comfortable seating choices as we engage in class conversation about our learning as well as learning about one another. Some students will be able to sit on the floor with back support and others who require a bit more movement can sit in a bouncy chair to allow them to wiggle without disturbing others.

During independent work time, children have the opportunity to sit in areas of the room where they can do their best work.

We talk about how some people prefer to sit in desks near others, some prefer to sit alone, and some prefer special seating choices. Children are able to make these choices early in their schooling that they will carry with them to build good work habits as they get older.

Currently in my class, some children have private "offices" where they can work alone. Once they choose their "office" space, we label it and they are motivated to get their work done. The chairs and seats I am requesting will give more children seating options, like working on the floor with a clipboard in their own personal space. Others who may need extra sensory input may choose the wiggle seats to use at their desks or at a table.

I have seen how choice and comfort can motivate children to do their best learning and feel supported. Please help us by giving us more options for more children!
