This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students range from high-level, avid readers to master-level reading-avoiders. We have comic book lovers, history buffs, die hard Rick Riordan fans, and students who aren't sure what they're into just yet.

To build lifelong readers, we need reading material kids want.

Middle school is usually the last time in a child's school career when they are encouraged to read books in school for their own enjoyment. Our library, as my students will readily let you know, is lacking in that regard. Together, we created a list of favorite books, recommendations, and series that students think their classmates and the classes to come will be able to enjoy.

My Project

With a newly updated class library, students will have more autonomy in independent reading. We hope to broaden the scope of our library, complete series, and include student choice in the books we offer.

A classroom library ought to demonstrate the value of independent student reading.

The variety and condition of the books students have access to is a large part of this. We hope to provide a welcoming, inclusive space for students across seventh grade and beyond to return to whenever they are in need of fresh reading material. No more arguing over who gets to read the favorite book next! Constant access to a range of interesting, diverse texts will lead to an enjoyable independent reading time and lifelong readers.
