My Students

Recess! A lot of us can remember all the fun we had during recess time. We remember playing different games with our peers and the variety of fun equipment we had. Now imagine being an active child who enjoys exploring the environment, but does not yet initiate play with peers. On top of that, imagine a playground with a play structure, but no other interesting equipment. This is what my students face every day.

I teach a Special Education Preschool Intensive (PSI) Program in a low socioeconomic school where all of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.

The children that attend my PSI program are between 3-5 years old and have a variety of moderate to severe special needs. Many of my students have never attended preschool or daycare so coming to school this year is their very first experience in both an educational and social environment. My students enjoy exploring their environment and hands-on activities. This is the first year our school serves a program like mine. We have a play structure where my students enjoy running, climbing, and jumping around and through it, but I'd like to provide my students with other outdoor play centers, where my students will be able to enhance their fine and gross motor skills, social skills, communication skills, self-help skills, and pre-academic skills! The best thing is, they will be working on all these important developmental skills while playing!

My Project

The supplies I am requesting will help my students develop social skills, communication skills, gross and fine motor skills, self-help skills, and pre-academic skills during outdoor play. Students will use the sand and water table to explore, make predictions, and develop sharing skills. With the sit and spin toy they will work on refining their balance, work on strengthening their gross motor muscles, and practice turn taking. As they play with the oversized blocks, they will be working on communication skills, eye-hand coordination, and social skills! The opportunities to develop new abilities and skills are endless!

Thank you for considering my outdoor centers project.

Providing these materials to these children will bring fun learning activities to our preschool program that is greatly needed to help instill a lifelong love for learning though hands-on experiences. Thank you.
