Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach and Coach the Girls Soccer team at a Title I school in California where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of my students parents have little to no college graduation rates. Many of the families have financial hardships, but they are always positive in sending their children to a school where they can improve their lives.

Student athletes will be successful demonstrating their love for the game they play as well as having their academics at a high level.

Teaching at the community I grew up, I am able to give back and make a difference in our kids lives. I grew up not knowing the importance of exercising and eating healthy, and this is what I want to teach our future generations.

It is extremely important for us to have the proper equipment for our school. With the soccer balls we will have enough for a 1-1 ratio where all the players will be able to practice and have less downtime when applying the new techniques. The balls will not only benefit the girls soccer team, but also the boys soccer team.

My Project

Our team is now part of CIF soccer for the 1st time in 8 years. The cost of being part of this league was extremely high, and after so many years, our board of directors has now given the first step into being part of this league. I coach the girls soccer team at our school but this will benefit both boys and girls teams. Being able to have more balls will give us more training time and less downtime to those students who don't have a ball. Having the right gear is also key. We have had scrimmage games with no referees and having a ref gear will allow my assistant to make the game more official. Our goalies have gear that doesn't protect them from the dirt park we practice in, so having this gear with protection will be key. In games, it would be great to have the bench seats so that everyone observes the game while seated.
