Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Exploring on wild nature walks, binoculars in hand, and investigating the ecology of wild animals is not always possible for students in urban areas. Thanks to our partnership with the Audubon Society, this can happen for our second graders. Since our school was founded, our students have participated in an annual bird study that teaches important research, reading, writing, and environmental awareness skills in an interactive and truly memorable way. Our school is comprised of students from various cultures and socioeconomic status. The bird study brings our school and classroom together to a common ground.

To fully prepare students for the 21st century, we need to provide them with opportunities to develop collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity skills.

Partnerships with community-based organizations teach students important skills within relevant contexts. Our second-grade classes are comprised of one Integrated Co-Teaching classroom and one general education classroom. Our students have a wide range of abilities and could use meaningful tools to use on their exploration.

My Project

Through your donation, you will be giving our students materials to use while they are observing the world around them. With the use of binoculars, our second-grade students can look closely within their community and spark their natural curiosity. The students love going on bird walks.

Being able to take their real-life experience and apply it within the classroom will be meaningful for them.

With our project, we are asking for books to assist them in researching specific neighborhood birds and engage in research and inquiry that is relevant to them. Students will be able to transfer the information that they learned and build their knowledge about the world around them.
