My Students

Do you remember at the age of 8 you would go out exploring and observing things in your backyard, garden or even near a grassy sidewalk? My students have this curiosity with a million questions about their natural surroundings.

We are a 2nd grade class in a very small inner city school in California, where 91% of the students participate in the free lunch program and 48% are English as second language learners.

These second graders are a very curious bunch. They have tons of questions about their natural surroundings.

My Project

These resources will change the students' perspectives of their natural world. Their use of the Big Microscopes and slides requested to collect specimens will help them understand their environment. It will encourage the students to feel confident to question and discuss their natural surroundings. They will learn to not just be observers but also become active participants. It will also encourage the second language learners to speak English in a more natural manner.

This project is important to my students because it will give them them the opportunity to ask, observe, discuss and record their natural surroundings.

It will create confidence in the students towards their understanding of their environment. The donations will make a difference because it gives these students the chance to be scientific explorers.
