My Students

Picture this: You're brand new to a new country. All of a sudden you're in a big new school where everyone expects you to communicate with teachers and classmates in a language you don't understand. Or, maybe you understand but you need further support at home, but mom or dad can't help you, because they don't speak the language. This is just a snapshot of the students I work with every day.

I'm an ENL teacher, in a large elementary school, in NYC.

Our students come from all over the world, and over two dozen languages are spoken in the homes of our children. With such a diverse population, the need for support with a language that may not be their first is ever present.

My Project

Serving such a vast population of English Language learners, with varying levels of language proficiency, makes it especially challenging to make sure everyone gets the level of attention they may require, specific to their individual learning needs, while keeping the activities fun and engaging.

With your donation, this listening center, as well as learning games and other materials, will help to provide opportunities for differentiated learning activities that will help make acquiring the English both a fun and meaningful experience.

It will give students an opportunity for individualized learning, in a way that gives them the supports they may need at any given moment.
