My Students

Can you imagine going to a school where there was no library nor dictionaries in your classroom? Hard to believe that is an accurate description of my classroom.

My students have not been successful at a regular campus therefore, they are placed on this campus for behavioral reshaping.

Along with behavior, usually academics suffer. Not having simple resources, such as dictionaries, hinders their learning. They need basic resources to master.

My Project

With the state testing, STARR, students are able to use a dictionary throughout the test. They will not use anything that they are not accustomed to using. My students need a dictionary in their classroom so that they learn to depend on it. I want looking up a word to be second nature to them.

Dictionaries in my classroom will not only teach them how to use it, thus increasing their vocabulary, but it will also teach them independence in their learning.

Ownership of learning is critical. The resources to do it are essential. You cannot have either alone. After developing this ownership, it will be second nature for them to look in a dictionary to clarify meaning or simply spell a word correctly in their writing.
