My Project

My grade 4 scholars are a fantastic bunch of thoughtful, caring 10-11-year-old boys and girls who cautiously entered my classroom in September 2024. This was their first experience with having two core teachers. In September 2024, we became departmentalized. I am assigned Math and Science. My teammate has been assigned to all aspects of Literacy. We have made it through 2/4 of our academic year together, and I would like to continue to reward them for all of their hard work and perseverance through the abnormality of having grade 4 with departmentalized instruction. This method of instruction has already been a win-win. Students are getting the best of both worlds when teachers can thoroughly teach the subjects they are passionate about. They can give each of us their best socially, emotionally, and, of course, ACADEMICALLY. This group has touched my heart in more ways than words can describe.

I want to continue to be able to spontaneously "catch them" doing great things socially and academically, as well as being great role models for their younger school peers.

I want to reward them with rubber bracelets that they could treasure (and even pass to another student) since they will be moving on to other schools for 5th grade.

My students visibly notice others who need a smile, a word of encouragement, etc. I'd like to expand that to them being able to spontaneously give out a rubber bracelet to a younger student who they feel needs positive reassurance as well.

I feel that this will help spread more informal Social Emotional Learning by having the students notice what another student needs a 'pick me up.'
