Help me give my students the experience of growing and hatching live chicks in the classroom as a part of our IB Unit "Sharing the Planet" where they will experience the life cycle of a chick.

My Students

Our students have become immersed within the inquiry process and wanting understand how to implement their learning in everyday life. They enjoy being courageous in taking action both in and outside of the classroom. Students are very hands-on learners when it comes to seeking their interest within this inquiry process.

The Kindergarteners here at Johnson K-8 fall nothing short of special.These students arrive to school every day with a smile on their face and are never afraid to ask questions that seek their interest.

For example, we have had the wonderful opportunity to start building a garden and growing different kinds of plants at our school. The Kindergartners get excited to walk by each and every day to see how much more their plant has grown. I can't wait to see their reaction when chicks arrive in our classroom!

My Project

Students have been very involved with hands-on learning engagements since starting Kindergarten here at Johnson K-8. This project will allow them to inquire into the life cycle of a baby chick throughout their school days. Using the incubator, it will allow for the opportunity to visually watch as chicks grow in the eggs and soon hatch! Our grand conversations and observations will allow the students to understand the importance of an incubator and how it keeps growing chicks safe.

Our students have taken action in a variety of ways and applying their learning in every day life.

Through this project, the students will become worldly scientist providing an opportunity that students may never experience and will never forget. We will be able to inquire how chicks live, and their needs to survive. This is where the supplies come into play, such as a heat lamp, food water kit, and bedding. They are living creatures that need to survive just like humans. We will be able to really discuss why these needs are vital in the life cycle of a chick.
