Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Have you ever fallen in love with a book? I want my students to experience that too. I teach fourth grade in a rural, low-income community.

Most of my students live below the poverty line. Some lack the basic necessities at home to complete their homework. Many are reading below grade level and have not been exposed to great literature because their homes are void of books.

I want my classroom to be rich with Newberry winners, Caldecott recipients, Coretta Scott King selections, and Sunshine State books. My students would be engaged in group discussions, literature talks, and book clubs. We would utilize the books for individual reading as well as whole-class read alouds.

With the economy as it stands right now the schools in our area are seeing substantial budget cuts. That trickles down the line to the classroom. As a result, our supply budget has been drastically cut. So much already comes out of my pocket I can not possibly purchase these books that I feel are so important for my students. Please help the next generation love quality literature as much as you do.
