Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project is an initial selection of comics, manga, and graphic novels for my school's Comics Club. Comics Club is a place where students perform their own independent reading. They are not given any specific academic goals, but they make their own personal choices to read and expand their world view through the medium of comics. The club is a quiet space for many students to take time away from the crowded classes and lunchrooms and be able to relax on their own time.

Students' time in Comics Club helps them cope with their busy schedules and ever growing workload by offering some much needed reprieve and relaxation.

There is no end to the benefits of them having this time, as any extra independent reading the students are doing can only benefit them in the long run, both on an academic level and personal level. Independent reading has been shown to support mental health and will help my students grow, not only as scholars but as people.
