My Students

This is a new experience to teach a fourth grade dual language immersion class. My students are with me for English class for about half the day and then switch to the Portuguese class. I have the opportunity to work with about 56 wonderful students every day. They are enthusiastic and committed to learning the Portuguese language.

My students are very diverse in academic background, home life, and personal life experiences.

It provides a great opportunity to incorporate kindness skills by being patient with one another and helping each other.

My Project

My students love to explore and experiment with information to reach a conclusion. The STEM kits will support the excitement of exploration and tie directly to fourth grade content. The kits will be used as a demonstration to reinforce concepts or provide small groups with opportunities to discover new information about various concepts.

Discussion, exploring, and hands-on manipulation will help to build and solidify understanding of the science curriculum.

The games also help to sharpen skills in strategy planning and reasoning. Giving students time to create a game plan, implement the plan, review results, and reflect on what went well and what can be improved on. Students will have easy access to materials and supplies through the use of storage drawers. Experiencing these kits and games during free time or choice days will allow continued exploration throughout the year.
